About Mikael

Elite player background

My name is Mikael Detterberg Imstedt and I currently work at Öijared Golf Academy (read more about us here) and also with Future / Boys national team. After playing for many years as an Elite player, I felt that it was time to move on in my career as it required an enormous amount of travel and time away from the family. The only thing I knew was that I wanted to stay in golf one way or another. My great driving force has always been to develop myself and become as good as I can be no matter what it is.

I represented the Swedish National Golf Team for 8 years and have been involved in European and Nordic Gold. I played as a professional for six years and have played around Europe, and I have lived in Asia and played on the Asian tour.

Focus on becoming a coach

After this, my thoughts began to move more and more towards the coaching side of golf.

I started teaching a little in Alingsås in 2010, mostly juniors and beginners. The love for teaching was obvious, so I made the decision immediately after the 2010 season that I would invest everything in my coaching career. In the winter of 2011, I went to TAU (coaching assistant education) and started working extra at Alingsås GK. In 2012 I became head pro at Alingsås GK.

In 2013, I started TU (2.5 years of coaching education) and graduated in the spring of 2016. I worked as Sports Manager 2015-2018. After that I trained in The Golfing Machine where I have a Golfstroke Engineer Bachelor. In 2019, I started at Öijared GK combined with the future / boys national team.

My philosophy as a coach

My belief is that anyone can play: Golfers come in all shapes and sizes. You do not have to be very strong, tall, lean or fast to succeed. Golfers come in every conceivable shape and size. It’s never too early or too late to start, and unlike most other sports you can enjoy golf your whole life!
